# Regions

> Choose where LayerRail provisions virtual machines, databases, Kubernetes clusters, and networking to meet latency and data residency needs.

Regions determine where compute, databases, clusters, and networking resources run.

## Choosing a region

Pick a region based on:

* User latency.
* Data residency needs.
* Service availability.
* Cost.
* Proximity to related resources.

## Keep related resources close

For lower latency, keep application VMs, PostgreSQL databases, Kubernetes clusters, and load balancers in the same region when possible.
